USIS Commercial Services launches Fingerprint Collection product
Checking applicants' criminal history using fingerprinting protects employees and
the public, and helps prevent theft of company property
TULSA, Okla., January 18, 2007 - USIS, a national leader in employment screening,
drug testing, insurance services, and the largest provider of security investigations
to the U.S. government, announces the launch of a new Fingerprint Collection product,
which is an employment screening service that enables authorized employers to conduct
criminal searches through the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) based on an
individual's unique fingerprint. The service is offered by USIS' commercial services
business based in Tulsa, Okla.
Through a comprehensive, nationwide network of live scan fingerprint collection
sites, USIS assists companies in mitigating risk by identifying applicants or employees
who could have a criminal history. "The use of live scan equipment allows employers
to quickly and easily perform fingerprint based criminal record searches on an individual,"
said Director of Criminal Records for USIS' commercial services business, Dean Johnson.
"Identifying individuals with a possible criminal past shows that an employer is
taking the necessary precautions to ensure the protection of company assets, as
well as ensure the safety of its employees and members of the general public."
"USIS is continually expanding its focus to include new industries, such as the
financial services sector," said Tim Dowd, president of USIS' commercial services
business. "Our new Fingerprint Collection product allows us to effectively address
the special screening requirements of the financial services market. We are also
offering fingerprinting services to employers in many other industries to help improve
the safety and security of their work place."
Using fingerprint technology to conduct criminal history checks is a common, and
sometimes mandated practice in several industries, including transportation, finance/banking,
gaming, nuclear, and healthcare. "USIS has made the fingerprinting process easier
for those employers who have a statutory need to conduct criminal checks through
the FBI," said Johnson. "We have the technology and established processes to allow
employers to meet industry requirements while using fewer internal resources to
administer the collection of fingerprints."
Clients initiate the fingerprinting process by placing an order on the USIS ordering
website. Based on the applicant's zip code, USIS will determine the nearest collection
site, and will send an instructional ticket to the employer that will direct the
applicant to the appropriate collection site. The applicant then visits one of USIS'
partner medical clinics, where the fingerprint collection will be conducted in a
professional, sterile environment. The fingerprint status will then be posted on
the USIS ordering website for the employer to view.
Fingerprinting is just one aspect of an employment screening package. The most comprehensive
solution in employment screening is to combine Fingerprint Collection with additional
background screening services offered by USIS' commercial services business. The
company provides credit reports, employment and education verifications, drug testing,
and other products which assist more than 33,000 customers across the U.S. in the
transportation, retail, healthcare, insurance, gaming, manufacturing and financial
services industries.
