In August 2005, President Bush signed into law the final version of H.R. 3, the “Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users” (SAFETEA-LU). This legislation will fund transportation and safety programs for the years 2004 to 2009.
A key component of the bill is Pre-Employment Safety Performance Driver History Screening, which will allow the trucking industry to gain electronic access to driver-related safety information from the Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS) database during the pre-employment driver screening process. Motor carriers will voluntarily be able to access accident reports, inspection reports that contain no driver-related safety violations, and inspection reports that contain safety violations resulting in an out-of-service-order.
USIS is currently working with the FMCSA to develop access to this database. We will continue to keep you informed of our progress in this matter.
Employee Spotlight: Holley Townes-Newell, Integrations Manager
USIS likes to hire employees who stick around. Holley Townes-Newell is a prime example of one such team member. Twelve years ago, Townes-Newell began her career at USIS in Data Entry and Customer Service. Over the years, Townes-Newell has found new roles in the company and currently assists clients as Integrations Manager – her position for the last three years.
As the Integrations Manager, she works with customers to integrate their systems, such as HRIS systems, with the USIS ordering platform so clients can better manage their information. Her role lends her skills as one of USIS’ important liaisons with our customers.
