New
Product Package Available to Help Retailers Combat Theft
USIS
introduces a new product package, USIS Theft Database PLUS.
The package combines a search of the USMA National Theft Database,
the premier screening tool within the retail industry, and
a new product, the National Criminal Theft Database. The National
Criminal Theft Database contains 32 million records of theft
and fraud-related criminal records acquired from county repositories
and criminal record orders processed by USIS. The new package
offers the retail industry the best protection available against
hiring individuals with a known history of theft and fraudulent
activity.
Companies utilizing USIS Theft Database PLUS will benefit
from receiving information from these two comprehensive
resources:
- The
USMA National Theft Database, which includes 500,000 incidents
of shoplifting and employee theft incidents submitted by
500 member companies, and
- The
National Criminal Theft Database, which includes 32 million
records of theft and fraud-related crimes on more than 15
million offenders.

USIS
is recognized as the leader in the development of comprehensive
database offerings to address the screening needs of specific
industries. The foundation of the USIS Theft Database PLUS
product package is the USMA National Theft Database. The
USMA National Theft Database has deep roots in the retail
industry, dating back to 1918 when a group of retailers
began sharing information on internal theft in an effort
to prevent other retailers from hiring known thieves. Contributors
consist of some of the nation’s largest retailers,
including Lane Bryant, Circuit City, Neiman Marcus, Saks
Fifth Avenue and Century 21 Stores. The USMA National Theft
Database is the industry standard for theft screening and
is the first database created by retailers for retailers.
The
National Criminal Theft Database contains 32 million records
derived from the larger, more comprehensive USIS 20/20 National
Criminal Database of more than 226 million records. The
National Criminal Theft database focuses on records that
specifically relate to theft and fraud. The database sources
include: state and county criminal record repositories;
state administrative offices of the courts; state departments
of corrections; and USIS proprietary record information
collected from past criminal searches in all 50 states.
To ensure
that the database continues to grow and meet the needs of
the retail industry, companies choosing to use the Theft
Database PLUS product package are obligated to contribute
theft incidents to the USMA National Theft Database.
For
information on how your company can begin using USIS Theft
Database PLUS, email tdb@usis.com
or call (800) 331-9175. For more information regarding other
criminal record product offerings, contact your sales representative.
USIS Offers Electronic Method to Submit Theft Incidents
Companies now do not have to waste time and energy phoning
or faxing in incidents, USIS has developed a web-based submission
platform for the USMA National Theft Database. The web entry
will allow the contributing company to ensure the accuracy
of the data prior to submitting the information. This should
improve the turnaround time for re-verifications of the potential
theft incidents to be reported to inquiring members.
If
you have questions about this new web-based platform, please
email tdb@usis.com.
Top 10 HIT Alert
A "hit" occurs when a search against the USMA National
Theft Database produces information on an applicant with a
record of theft.
Over the past few years, USIS has identified nearly 45,000
applicants with records of theft... most of which cannot be
found in standard public records. This infomation is critical
to prevent hiring thieves who would otherwise go undetected.
