Toastmasters “toasts” Commercial Services team and its efforts
International Director Wallace visits two clubs formed by USIS in Tulsa
Tulsa , Okla., June 6, 2007 – Toastmasters International
Director Ralph Wallace, not surprisingly, had a few great words to say recently
when he visited USIS’ Commercial Services Division and spoke to the two employee
Toastmaster chapters of the Tulsa-based business. Wallace praised USIS leadership
and employees for embracing the Toastmasters opportunity.
Mr. Wallace was in the area preceding a Toastmasters District Convention in Tulsa.
He visited USIS’ Discovery and Informers Toastmasters clubs
and the latter received recognition as the largest chapter in the District with
40 chartered members. The two newly-formed chapters, with a combined membership
of 75 employees, practice public speaking and leadership skills at weekly Toastmaster
meetings held on-site at USIS.
The idea for a USIS corporate club originated when the Commercial Services business’s
Vice President of Marketing, Jennifer Daniels, asked a fellow employee about her
participation in another area Toastmasters club. Barbara Fuente, director of market
development, described the benefits of her experiences and they agreed that it would
be a valuable activity to offer employees. The response was so positive that two
USIS corporate clubs were formed.
Toastmasters International has groups in 90 countries and its universal message
of the importance of public speaking and leadership values struck a chord with USIS
employees. “I knew that we had a need for this type of professional development,”
said Daniels, “and the positive response has really validated the opportunity
for USIS to help employees grow this important skill set.”
