Field Investigator FAQs

How is the compensation determined?

Salaries are determined based on geographic location and cost of living in that area.

When can I start?

After the applicant interview process, positions requires an extensive background investigation that can take 1-6 months. After receipt of a favorable adjudication, a training date will be coordinated.

Will I receive compensation during training?

Yes, USIS will pay for training expenses to include hotel and a per diem for meals during the classroom training.

Are transfer opportunities available?

Yes, but you are required to work in the initial location for at least 12 months prior to requesting a transfer.

Is relocation assistance available?

Yes, relocation assistance is available only if USIS asks you to move to a different location and the position you were interested in is no longer available.


Independent Contractor FAQs

How much work is there?

Workload is variable based on location and the specific contract. USIS assigns work to employees first and independent contractors are used to handle spikes in workload and work in remote locations.

Can I carry a weapon?

No. Our principal customer specifically prohibits our employees and independent contractors from carrying weapons while on the job. In addition, while on the job, employees and independent contractors are prohibited from carrying weapons in their vehicles, regardless of whether the vehicles are company-provided, rentals, or privately owned.

How do I submit my reports of investigations?

Reports of investigations are submitted electronically through the supplied laptop computer.

Will I have to go TDY?

Independent contractors very rarely participate in TDY assignments. As an independent contractor, you have the right and ability to refuse work.
