Corporate Social Responsibility program puts USIS Investigators in classrooms
Falls Church, Va., Oct. 6, 2009 – USIS, the largest provider of security investigations to the U.S. Government and a national leader in pre-employment screening, is continuing its school program where seasoned investigators go to class, figuratively at least, to show students how making good decisions in their lives will positively impact their futures.
The program, called “Background to the Future” is gaining momentum across the U.S. and it teaches students, through real-world examples, to think before they act because the decisions they make today can have a long-lasting effect on future jobs and career opportunities.
During the presentations, which are free, USIS professional investigators touch on topics such as having integrity, avoiding the pitfalls of drugs and alcohol, keeping a good work ethic, and not “burning bridges” with important contacts like teachers, employers, or others who may be asked to comment on their character someday.
“We have a cadre of investigators who have done thousands of background investigations who have ‘seen it all’ and are volunteering their time to talk frankly with groups of young people,” says Michael John, Vice President of Corporate Communication for Altegrity, USIS’ parent company. “From social media postings to use of the internet, from credit card responsibility to avoiding illegal substances, we aim to show students the fine art of thinking before you act because what they do today will be there for future employers to see. This is also an important way that our investigators give back to the communities in which they live and work.”
USIS receives multiple requests each week from schools and guidance counselors around the U.S., to have presentations made by investigators in their classrooms. Investigators also hand out brochures and bookmarks to go along with their talks.
